Ocean City NJ Summary

My Ocean City, NJ edits were left for last and were unfortunately rushed due too time constraints. I chose to edit the Ocean City, NJ article because I have been going to this shore since I was young. The shore has a sentimental value to me so I tried to add that to the article. My first edit I made to the article was removed because the person who edited it said it was only a point of view. My second edit replaced my first edit and added more on the family oriented shore. My final edit reinforced my first two edits with a link to beach house rental available for summer. My edits came from my personal experiences at the shore and also a website that is mentioned in my last edit. Overall my impact to this article was small, but I think thanks to my contributions the reader can get a better idea about the shore aside from geography and demographics.

Everyone uses AIM, whether they are on 24/7 or just every once in a while and chances are they use it to keep in contact with friends. So why hasn't advertising integrated into this technology. They have found their way on to Myspace and search engines but why not this particular aspect of the market. Craig discusses a blog from Clickz on this topic. He brings up valid points on the usefulness of integrating advertising onto IM. It is a technology that many use everyday and including an advertisement on the message box while the person is IMing will help ingrain the advertisement in that persons head. Changing the advertisement on each message box would increase the reach of the advertisement and help prevent saturation of the ad.

As I was looking over my classmates blogs I found interesting summary on Toby's blog on blog relationships. This summary was part of Elise's Blog. I also never would have thought anyone would be looking at our blogs other then Alex and our fellow classmates. It has been very interesting to see people outside the classroom comment on our blogs. This gives us a look at how these blog relationships form.

Blogging also brings power to the consumer. It allows the consumer to voice how they feel about a particular product or a company. This can be good and bad for the company depending on how the consumer feels about the company. A positive feedback from the consumer in a blog is really positive for the company, it is free advertisement. A blog is also more trusted because it is the consumer voice and they have no vested interest in the company. The growth in the blogging community has changed the PR role to be more reactive rather then proactive. Much of PR's job is now to proof these blog and to make sure negative feelings for a company do not make it public.

Bridging the Digital Divide

The Digital Divide is a subject we have discussed in class, so when I was scrolling through Diva Marketing and saw Toby's blog titled, "Bridging the Digital Divide," I immediately began to read it. In this article she highlights the importance of all children to have access to the World Wide Web. There is so much to be learned on the web not only about the technology but it also provides a hands on approach to learning. It engages the youth in their learning and sparking this hunger for information when they are young is crucial. Children of all ethnicities are the future of our business and we need to equip them with the knowledge necessary to keep the world spinning towards improving technology.

In class we discussed news on a $100 laptop. Although the simplest form of the always improving technology it will help to shorten the digital divide by providing the technology to the less fortunate.

A wi-fi free for all!!

Wireless internet has been very convenient during my last 2 years at school. No more wires getting tangled up and now I can take my laptop anywhere I feel like doing work. The idea of making a whole city Wi-fi accessible is very exciting. I was going through my Click Z blogs that I haven't filtered through in a long time and came across Free Wi-Fi 'Brought to You By': Google Wins SF Contract. Google and EarthLink have won joint bids to provide this service to the city of San Francisco. Google’s service would be free and ad-based while EarthLink will be offering the service for $20 a month. Google’s ad proposal is targeting the small businesses and sole proprietorships of San Francisco who normally would not be able to afford an advertising campaign. With this new technology Google points out that they will be able to target their audiences geographically to make the ads more useful.

San Francisco is not the only city to be making Wi-fi city wide. Philadelphia has also been talking about bringing Wi-fi to the "City of Brotherly Love." It will be interesting to watch Wi-fi grow. This is just the beginning; I see all the major cities adopting the technology in the near future. Who knows Wi-fi could become nation wide eventually.

A car running on Soy Bean Oil??

Our required blog Slashdot blogged on a car running off of soy bean oil. I think we all will agree that gas prices are way out of hand. In light of this situation students from West Philadelphia High School have developed a sports car that can go from 0-60 miles an hour in 4 seconds running solely off of soy bean oil. This new sports car gets 50 miles to a gallon. It was a star at the Philadelphia Auto Show as it combines a sporty look with economy. To see more about the students who developed this car you can go to

The latest acessory to the latest spokes model?

I was filtering through my required blog list and found an article in Diva Marketing, Cuteness Creates Buzz for Old Navy. The latest accessory has become a cute pooch that fits in your hand bad. Who would have thought that a dog would become the cutest accessory? It started in Hollywood and it is now hitting the street the newest thing is walking around with a dog in your purse. Now companies are taking this trend a step further. Old Navy for instance is looking for a spokes dog, you heard me correctly not a spokes model but a spokes dog. They are not the only ones taking advantage of this dog trend. Victoria Secret and their Pink line is also capitalizing on the I love my dog buzz. They have T-shirts that proclaim "I love my dog" and that's not all Victoria’s Secret is offering they also have started selling accessories for our furry friend. Whoever thought Victoria’s Secret was just for bras and panties is living in the past. Customers can come in to find dog collars, dog bowls, and little t-shirts for their latest accessory.

Wiki Edit #12

My final edit to the article Ocean City, NJ has been completed. My second and third edit to this article were very close together so I was unable to see how others reacted to my second edit. The second edit is still there and I added a site to the article. I also mentioned how Tuesday nights are family night on the boardwalk. The site I added relates to renting beach houses for vacation.

Sex and the City Anonymous

Their should be a program for all the Sex and the City addicts out there. My teammate Kathleen and I both enjoy the show to put it lightly. I noticed her love for the show thru her blog postings. She chose to edit the wiki article on the series and I have been following her postings. I actually just saw the "Plus One is the Lonliest Number" episode today, you can currently order it on HBO incase you her wondering. One of her edits deals with this particular episode. I agree with kathleen that even though this isn't my favorite episode it did make me laugh.

Shopping Malls Summary

This article was a difficult edit for me. The wiki article on shopping malls was very thorough so to find different and acceptable information was difficult. After I made my first edit to the article to was immediately erased. The fact that was erased was that Cherry Hill mall was the first enclosed shopping mall in the USA. I knew this was true so for my third edit I put it back in the history section. As of now my second and third edits still remain in the article. My knowledge was based on fun facts that I have read about. Also I live very close to the Cherry Hill mall and it is advertised as the oldest mall in the US. My presence in this article is small, but I think my contribution added fun facts to the article. Below show my three edits made to this article.

collingswood overall

My Wiki edits on the article Collingswood NJ still remain intact with only a few minor changes. I picked this article because I've lived in Collingswood my whole life. I knew there was more to the town then just the typical information on Geography and Demographics. My intention was to give the reader a better understanding of the town through my own knowledge on the community. I think most of the attractiveness of Collingswood is the community and I wanted the readers to get this through reading the article. My edits are contained within the community section and also the transportation section. I added both of these sections and most of the work done to these parts is my edits. The only thing that was removed from my work was some trivial information that wasn't tactfully written. I think my edits are a positive contribution to this article because it previously only contained numerical data within the government and demographic headings. Now the reader can get a feel for the community not just the facts on income and geography. Below i have included all of my edits to this article.

Wiki edit #11

My original edit to Ocean City NJ was deleted right after I placed it. So for my 2nd edit I put the same edit plus i made some additions. I readded my Comunity section and also wrote...

A perfect family oriented vacation destination. Apart of the Jersey shore decorated with sand, an ocean, a boardwalk and all you need for a perfect family vacation. Ocean City is a dry town and therefore does not get many college student visitors. The neighboring shores are more attractive for the younger crowds. This another attractive feature for families.

myspace

It seems like everyone has a myspace account. When a poll was taken in our class the majority have facebook accounts, this is contrary to overall data. The statistics presented to us in class put myspace way ahead of facebook. Also the growth of myspace is growing at a rate of 250,000 a day. There is no end in sight for myspace as they are also going global. Facebook on the other hand has some adjustments needed to made as they are saturating the college market. The question for facebook is where to go next.

Myspace had an interesting start as it was a place for bands to promote their music. From there their popularity exploded. It is a place companies use to advertise and its users use to explore their favorite bands, create networks and blog. The uses are endless and from what the facts say for the future of myspace so is its future.

What kind of a word is loocsixela? Well loocsixela isn't a word. It is a word that was made up for my Information Technology Applications in Marketing. Currently we are running an experiment to see if we can influence the search results in google for the made up term loocsixela.

Grey's Anatomy

So I have realized that my addiction to this show is shared by many including my teammate Nicole. Her Wiki article on Grey's Anatomy shows that she is as avid of a watcher as me!! Every Sunday I look forward to 10 pm when I get to relax and watch the cast of Grey's go through the drama of working in a hospital. Good to know I'm not the only one enjoying the show!!!

Small Wiki Edit

For my third edit of the semester I decided to edit the wiki article on Shopping Malls. I live about 10 minutes away from the first enclosed shopping mall in the US. It is the Cherry Hill Mall so I added this fact to the history section of the article. I said...

The Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill New Jersey is recognized as the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States.

Wiki pro

I have continued my edits to the Wiki article on my hometown of Collingswood NJ. This edit included a paragraph about my favorite spot in Collingswood Knights Park. My edit is as follows...

Knights Park

Knights Park and Haddon ave are the heart of Collingswood. Knights park is the home to daytime recreation of the town. It is located across the street from Collingswood High School and it hosts the home games of the Collingswood High School sports such as Womens Field Hockey and Lacrosse as well as Baseball and Softball. Collingswood is rich in tradition and this park is where the sports teams keep the winning tradition alive. The park is also enjoyed by joggers, people walking their dogs, and kids playing sports.

Skype

The Skype presentations have added an interesting twist to class. It has enabled us to have successful business men and women to talk to us no matter their location. Toby Bloomberg was one of presentations. She is a firm supporter of blogs. Blogs are great for small start up companies as they are a low cost way to advertise. This is not the only use Toby suggests for blogs. Blogs can also be used for crisis management it can stop rumors that are circulating about a given company. Universities are even using blogs to attract prospective students. They have current students blog positive personal testimonies to add to the credibility of the University. Blogging is better suited when a company allows it that way they are able to monitor what is said. Some companies that are currently blogging are Mc Donalds, Microsoft, and google to name a few.
